Vote by Mail

The deadline to request your mail-in ballot has passed. If you already have your mail-in ballot you can drop it off until polls close on Election Day at 7:30pm. You may drop your ballot off at the Elections Canada office or your regular Election Day polling station.

The Elections Canada returning office is located at: Southland Tower, Suite 600, 10655 Southport Road SW, Calgary, Alberta, T2W 4Y1. The returning office is open 7 days per week:

    • Monday to Friday, 9:00am to 9:00pm
    • Saturday, 9:00am to 6:00pm
    • Sunday, 12:00pm to 4:00pm

Completing Your Mail-in Ballot

Once your application to vote by mail is accepted, you will be sent a Special Ballot voting kit with instructions on how to vote.

Voting by Special Ballot is different than voting on Election Day in person. Your voting kit will include a ballot where you must write-in the first and last name of the local candidate you’d like to vote for. You do not need to write the party name, but if you write it along with the candidate’s name, it will be accepted.

You must write the first and last name of the local candidate you wish to vote for. Writing in only the name of the party will spoil your ballot and it will not be counted. Writing in the name of the party leader will spoil your ballot unless you live in the party leader’s home riding.

Once you have completed your ballot, it must be sealed in the provided ballot-secrecy envelope, which then gets placed into an outer envelope.

The outer envelope must be signed and dated before you return it to Elections Canada. You do not need to add postage to the pre-addressed envelope.

Once you request your ballot by mail, you will not be able to vote in person on Election Day or at the Advance Polls.

Be sure to complete and mail-in your ballot as soon as possible to ensure it is received by Elections Canada before Election Day, Monday, September 20th.
